Herralink in the News

  • “I feel like I’m worth conversation. You know, sometimes it’s really, really depressing if you think about it long enough,” said McCorry. “But they don’t give me time to feel depressed. And you know, it gives me something to look forward to on the weekends. It’s wonderful.”

  • “This is a wonderful organization,” added Supervisor Herrity. “It’s connected thousands of students with seniors in assisted living and nursing homes that are basically alone.”

  • "The only thing I feel strongly about is how special it is to see when residents who normally forget things share new parts of their life with you,” said Akarshan Anand, the president of the Herralink group at Centreville High School.”

  • “Through her organization, Isabella and her team of volunteers bring joy and warmth to our facility, enriching the lives of our residents with laughter, compassion and affection.”

  • "Isabella Solano, chosen by Supervisor Patrick Herrity (R-Springfield) for creating a non-profit group, Herralink, which connects high-school students with retirement-home residents, especially those who do not receive guests regularly."

  • “My very first introduction to Herralink was at their 2023 Thanksgiving event, where I felt nervous and out of place. However, with the support of my fellow volunteers, I was able to talk and get to know the residents. As a result, the community events have been life-changing for me, as they served as an exploratory ground to step out of my comfort zone while being supported by students and residents who were doing the same thing," said Banerjee, a student from Thomas Jefferson High School.
